Are you ready to take on a challenge that will shape not only your career but also your perspective on the world?
This is an opportunity to join a new, dynamic, interdisciplinary research group at the Ruđer Bošković Institute that places you at the frontier of climate change, extreme events, and ocean-atmosphere science by working on some of the most pressing questions of our time:
🏝 What future awaits the microclimates of Croatian islands — and how can ecosystems and societies prepare?
This is not just a PhD — it’s a unique opportunity to build cutting-edge skills in numerical modeling in geosciences with a focus on extreme events and climate adaptation, an expertise highly sought after in both academia and the private sector (meteorological services, risk assessment companies, the insurance industry, environmental consultancies, etc.).

Research Focus
Your doctoral research will explore the impact of climate change on meteotsunamis and other ocean-atmosphere extreme events, combining:
• State-of-the-art numerical modeling.
• High-resolution climate simulations for the Adriatic Sea and Croatian islands.
• Innovative hazard assessment approaches, including global meteo-tsunami hazard mapping.
• Climate adaptation strategies relevant to society, infrastructure, and ecosystems.

Candidate Profile
We are looking for highly motivated candidates who:
• Hold a Master’s degree in computer sciences, geophysics, climate science, or related fields.
• Are eager to develop numerical modeling and HPC skills.
• Have a strong interest in extreme events, climate hazards, and adaptation strategies.
• Possess good analytical and programming abilities (experience in MATLAB/Python, and/or Fortran/C, is a plus).
• Communicate fluently in English.
