Assistant Research Scientist Position in Coastal Oceanography

#1 Unread post by mingli »

The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) Horn Point Laboratory (HPL) is seeking one post-doctoral Assistant Research Scientist to work on a NOAA-funded project on the emerging hypoxia on the West Florida Shelf. Observations of hypoxia on the oligotrophic West Florida Shelf defies the conventional understanding of coastal hypoxia and is believed to be related to climate change and harmful algal blooms. The position will involve the development and applications of coupled hydrodynamic-biogeochemical models and the analysis of observational data. He/she will have an opportunity to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of scientists including sea-going oceanographers. A Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography or a related field is required. Experience in numerical modeling is preferred. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The appointee is eligible to receive the full university benefits, including the medical, prescription and dental plans as well as the state retirement and pension plan. Position begins in January 2024. The initial appointment is for 2-years, with re-appointments possible, contingent on satisfactory performance. Applications should be submitted at https://umces.peopleadmin.com/postings/1776 by 1 November, 2023, and include CV, copies of publications, statement of research interests, one-page summary of Ph.D. thesis, names/addresses of three references, and immigration status of non U.S. citizens. Inquiries may be sent to Prof. Ming Li at mingli@umces.edu, Horn Point Lab, University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science. Applications will be reviewed until position is filled.
