Open position for high-resolution ocean data assimilation

#1 Unread post by arango »

The candidate will study the ocean, ice, and coupled data assimilation strategies within the NASA GEOS coupled forecast system. This researcher will help to design novel techniques to assimilate new NASA observations such as laser altimetry from ICESAT-2, high-resolution altimetry from the Surface Water/Ocean Topography (SWOT), and ocean currents from e.g., the Ocean Dynamics and Surface Exchange with the Atmosphere (ODYSEA) satellite. This work will be performed at the Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO), NASA, Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD, USA. The GMAO maintains and develops state-of-art modeling and data assimilation systems for earth system predictions and reanalyses with the ultimate aim of enhancing the utility of NASA’s Earth observations.
