About ARGO profilers

#1 Unread post by lalvarez »

Hello to All

First of al, I know it is not the best place to ask about but anyway here I go.

I'm working on water masses at the entrance of the gulf of California (image attached), I have downloaded some ARGOS profilers data (temperature and salinity) from 01/01/2014 to 12/31/2023.

When I plot them in a T-S diagram (selected them by interanual conditions: Neutral, La Niña and El Niño) I found data in some profiles are not good or at least correct, mainly the salinity values (images attached).

My questions are:
Does anyone has had a problem or situation alike?
Is there a statistical/formal/objective/approach to correct those data?

All suggestions are welcome
Thanks in advance

Hi, Alvarez.

I'm afraid to tell my opinion because I'm not sure where did you get the ARGO data.
But, the ARGO data have some flag about mode as far as I know.
I remember R, A, D and each of them means Real-time, Adjusted, Delayed respectively.

If your work requires recent data, I recommend you to use at least A-mode data.
Of course, you can use R-mode data if it is provided (R-mode requires time to be updated).

I hope the attatched page below will be helpful.

Also, you can find informations about the "mode" of ARGO data from user's manual provided in page below.

Hello TigerChoo

Thanks a lot for your answer, I found the link and document you suggest.

Also I found the GODAE page and got the Profilers data from there, as well as some documentation about quality controls, so I could make a decision about those weird data.

New results are as follows
