The Computational Oceanography Lab in the School of Marine Science and Policy at the University of Delaware is seeking a Post Doctoral Researcher in ocean modeling and data analysis. The appointee is expected to work with Dr. Yun Li to develop and implement coupled hydrodynamic-water-quality models for the Delaware Bay and Delaware Inland Bays. Candidates with prior modeling experience, preferably ROMS or FVCOM, will be considered. A Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography or a related field is required. Experience in numerical modeling is preferred. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The appointee is eligible to receive the full university benefits, including the medical, prescription, and dental plans as well as the state retirement and pension plan. The position start date is negotiable but not later than Oct. 15th, 2023. • Ph.D. degree (or to be expected before the end of 2023) in Physical/Biological/Chemical Oceanography or a related field is required.
  • Prior experience in ocean modeling, preferably ROMS (Regional Ocean Modeling System), FVOM (Finite Volume Community Ocean Model), or similar modeling systems.
  • Understanding of coastal dynamics and the interactions between marine physical and biogeochemical/biological processes.
  • Experience with statistical analyses of large datasets and numerical model simulations.
  • Ability to develop reports, proposals, and publications on original research. Strong written and oral communication skills, as evidenced preferably through publications in peer-reviewed scientific literature and presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Capability of interacting with a diverse group of research personnel.
