modeling postdoc at UC Santa Cruz

#1 Unread post by cae »

The Department of Ocean Sciences at the University of California, Santa Cruz, invites applications for Postdoctoral Scholar positions in ocean modeling and/or data assimilation in coupled physical/biogeochemical configurations. Various projects revolve around modeling studies of the California Current System and broader North Pacific using the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS). Particular areas of research include understanding anthropogenic influences on the Gulf of the Farallones ecosystem, process studies using coupled physical/biogeochemical models, developing models for phytoplankton community based on remote sensing data, and assimilation of biogeochemical data into ocean models using 4-Dimensional Variational (4D-Var) assimilation.

The postdoctoral scientist will work under the supervision of Prof. Christopher Edwards and will collaborate with relevant project partners at UCSC and at various institutions such as UCLA, MIT, and Univ. Hawaii. Strong quantitative skills and experience with numerical models and scientific programming is advantageous, particularly with Fortran and either Matlab or Python. Scholars will be expected to lead research independently and work as part of a team, contributing to the ocean modeling activities at UCSC. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are helpful.

Inquiries can be sent to Chris Edwards at cedwards@ucsc.edu. To apply, please include a C.V. and names of three references in your email, ideally by September 30, 2022.
