ROMS coefficients setting

#1 Unread post by xrhuang »

Hi, everyone.
I want to simulate the mesoscale eddy in the ocean.
But how to set the coefficients, like horizontal diffusion (TNU2, TNU4), horizontal viscosity (VISC2, VISC4), and vertical mixing (AKV_BAK) ?
And how can I set the Turbulent closure parameters (AKK_BAK, AKP_BAK, TKENU2, TKENU4) ?
Are there any papers about the numerical study of mesoscale eddy that I can follow?

Many thanks,
xrh

Hi xrhuang,
You can read these 3 papers:
1. Capet, X., McWilliams, J. C., Molemaker, M. J., & Shchepetkin, A. F. (2008). Mesoscale to submesoscale transition in the California Current System. Part I: Flow structure, eddy flux, and observational tests. Journal of physical oceanography, 38(1), 29-43. (And two other articles of the same name)
2. Contreras, M., Pizarro, O., Dewitte, B., Sepulveda, H. H., & Renault, L. (2019). Subsurface mesoscale eddy generation in the ocean off central Chile. Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans, 124(8), 5700-5722.
