OXYGEN in cppdefs.h

In a manual to introduce biogeochemical model in ROMS, it says

if OXYGEN is defined in "cppdefs.h", the oxygen equation is solved additionally. if CARBON is defined in "cppdefs.h", the equations for all C-related components are solved additionally.

But I could not find OXYGEN or CARBON in "cppdefs.h" of ROMS2. Can someone tell me what is going on?

The OXYGEN switch is additionally introduced in roms-2.2 and CARBON is there from 2.1 onwards. So you might have read a manual of roms-2.2. That may be the reason for your confusion
