The difference between climatology and open boundary?

#1 Unread post by LiangPeng »

Hi,everyone
I'm confused about the difference between climatology and the open boundary in ROMS.In my opinion, when run a model you only need the initial condition, force and boundary condition, so what role does the climatolgy play? If I get the open boundary and climatology files from the same data, is it still necessary to define both of them?
Any answer is appreciated,
Thank you.

You are right - you might not need climatology. I would certainly try your run without it first. However, the option is there should you decide to try it later. We have one domain where adding a band of climatology nudging around the edge helped the boundary conditions.
