How to do nesting using ROMS?

#1 Unread post by leon »

Dear all,
Can ROMS do nesting right now? And how?
Are there any tutorials or tools or examples for ROMS nesting?

Any information is OK. Thank you very much~

It is possible to do in the ROMS_AGRIF version, at least.

Please get the code and manual at

http://roms.mpl.ird.fr/

Many of us have done off-line nesting, in which you compute the larger domain first, then extract boundary conditions from it for the smaller domain. What are your exact needs?

Hi Kate,

What routines do you use to do that? They could be useful for already run scenarios...

One possible set of matlab script for doing this is available from http://drobilica.irb.hr/~mathieu/Roms_Interpolation/
Two methods are available: interpolating using stations or using history files. The grids do not have to be parallel. I was the only user so far of those script so please ask me if some error occur. Note also that I do not consider there the thorny issues of which boundary conditions to select and other ROMS parameters.

I've wanted to do some nesting in my runs too. Offline nesting is not a problem, but I would like to do a nesting in which two different grids actually interact, is there any option to do this already?
Thanks,
DAVID

Thanks all of you very much. Actually, RNT toolbox is also a useful tools for ROMS. You can get it from http://www.o3d.org/RNT/ . And there are also some tutorials on http://www.o3d.org/ROMS-Tutorial/ . Thanks a lot for Mr. E. Di Lorenzo. He really does a good job~

See above for the French branch which does this. Also, the USGS guys have a Hudson River case which does this, though it isn't in the public Rutgers trunk. I expect it's coming... and has been for what, two years now?
