give maximum weight to data

#1 Unread post by xavierC »

Hi all,

i am still assimilating my HF radar currents with more or less success. i use daily assimilation window with 30 min data (2km model 6km data). But although it works relatively well, sometimes i do not recognize the assimilated data in my solution.
I am using W4DPSAS with WEAK_CONSTRAINT (ROMS 3.9 rev1002) how can i give maximum weight to my data ? I really would like to see my data in the assimilated solution .

thanks in advance
Xavier

Hi Xavier;

You can always play with the obs and background errors... But it sounds to me you may want to increase the number of observations as well.
When I assimilated HFR in the past, my best results were by assimilating 2h averages every 2h. The way you do it depends on the processes included in your simulation - and I am thinking specifically about the tides. I added some info on this to the paper https://doi.org/10.1175/JPO-D-14-0074.1

Cheers

Joao
