How to set the North OBC in a quasi-global model?

#1 Unread post by richardxia »

I am running a quasi-global model using ROMS. The difficulty I am facing is how to handle the northern polar region. I have no an ice model. If set the model region to 80S~65N, the question is how to set the north open boundary conditions. I hear about the sponge boundary conditions, can anyone tell me more detail about this kind of OBC? Relax the temperature and salinity to the climatological? How to set the velocity OBC?
Thank you in advance.

I used a wall at 80N - depending what you are looking at, it might be ok. The midlatitude and tropical features (including climatic indexes such as PDO and NINOs) were very well reproduced in the Pacific for our cuasi global ROMS. I think that Hernan posted these results in one of the sections under ROMS Results.
