Announcement: Modeling and Observing the Tides in the Ocean

#1 Unread post by ezaron »

Jim Richman, Richard Ray, Patrick Cummins and I have proposed a session
#2250 on Modeling and Observing the Tides in the Ocean at the 2014 Fall AGU
Meeting in San Francisco. I invite you to consider submitting an
abstract to this session.

The session summary is:

A resurgence of interest in ocean tides has occurred in the past few
years with satellite estimates of barotropic and baroclinic tidal
amplitudes and dissipation, field experiments focused on the generation
and propagation of internal tides and regional and global ocean models
of the barotropic and baroclinic tides in both the open and coastal
ocean. At least four high resolution global ocean circulation models
with embedded tides exist, showing widespread interest in internal tide
generation and dissipation in the deep ocean. Many new process studies
characterizing baroclinic tidal generation, propagation and dissipation
using observations and models have been performed. This session will
provide a forum to discuss recent results and observations on the
generation, propagation and dissipation of tides in both the coastal and
deep ocean. Comparisons between global models and regional models and
comparisons between models and observations are particularly encouraged
as a basis for discussion in this session.
