IBM Power7 X SGI Amd

#1 Unread post by ghisolfi »

Hi,
The lab where I work is going to acquire machines to substitute our cluster.

We have 2 proposals on the same price level.
One from IBM and other for SGI.

I would like some advice on this shop.
I wish to know about the hardware issues of those machines for running Roms models.
In both cases we are going to use GNU/Linux OS.
I would appreciate if you guys share your experiences and knowledge to make me do the right choice and get the machine with greater performance.
About storage, It's not the big deal because we have external drives to keep the data not in use.

Follow a short of both specifications:

SGI:
Total number of nodes: 4
3 x H2106 server
4 x Opteron 6128 8-cores 2.0Ghz/12Mb L3 cache
64GB DDR3
500Gb SATA hard disk

1 x C2108 server
2 x Opteron 6128 8-cores 2.0Ghz/12Mb L3 cache
64GB DDR3
2 x 1TB SATA hard disks

1 Switch infiniband

IBM:
Total number of nodes: 1

Power 740
2 x 8 core 3.55 Power7 processor
8 x 16Gb Memory
2 x 146Gb 15K Rpm SFF SAS Hard Disk

Thanks in advance

Best Regards

David
