I am wondering if anyone has compared the MLD output (HSBL) from ROMS and the MLD estimated from the temperature and salinity output (from the same model run) using a simple density criterion (e.g. 0.03 kg/m3)? I did a simple comparison for winter mixed layer in my Southern Ocean simulation. It seems that HSBL is generally shallower than the MLD from density method, particularly over deep mixing areas. Thanks for your comments.
