Position: Research Civil Engineer or Environmental/Ocean Scientist

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)

Water Quality & Contaminant Modeling Branch
Vicksburg, MS

Job Summary
Perform numerical modeling of sediment and contaminant transport in surface waters in support of civil works projects with USACE Districts, and work on research projects related to, e.g., modeling of mud aggregates and fluid mud.

Work with a senior numerical modeler to be trained in:
1) Applying existing hydrodynamic, sediment transport and contaminant transport models to different surface waters, e.g., estuaries, rivers, and lakes, in support of dredging and beneficial use projects by USACE Districts and contaminated sediment Superfund Site remedial investigations by EPA.
2) Developing new models and post-processing tools to support these tasks using FORTRAN, C, C++, and Matlab.

Computational models are developed and run on the Department of Defense’s High Performance Computing center resources using FORTRAN, C++ in Unix/Linux environments.

Post processing using MatLab and Aquaveo’s Surface-water Modeling System (SMS) is standard practice.

Qualifications
MS or PhD in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Ocean Sciences. Knowledge of numerical methods and some experience in performing numerical modeling is essential. Must be a US citizen.
Demonstrated technical writing capacity as evidenced by at least one professional publication (conference proceeding, peer reviewed journal publication, thesis/dissertation).

Job Location
Remote duty station in Clemson, SC for at least one year, after which relocation to ERDC in Vicksburg, MS or some other approved duty station is possible.
