Ph.D. position for numerical modeling

#1 Unread post by zxue »

One Ph.D. student scholarship (research assistant) is available immediately at the Coupled Ocean Modeling Group (http://coastandenvironment.lsu.edu/docs/faculty/xuelab/) at the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences, Louisiana State University. The scholarship will cover the tuition plus a research assistantship/stipend. The Ph.D. student is expected to work on

1) the coupled physical-biogeochemical modeling using the Coupled Ocean-Atmosphere-Wave-and-Sediment Transport Modeling system; or
2) the coupled atmospheric-hydrological (WRF-Hydro) modeling system.

A M.S. in physical oceanography, marine ecosystem, hydrological science and numerical modeling are desired as well as working experiences with Linux, Fortran, and Matlab.

Located in the northern Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi River Delta, the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences at LSU is a world-class program specialized in coastal and deltaic dynamics (http://www.oceanography.lsu.edu). The department has 30 faculty members, 5 of which are AAAS fellows, working on physical, geological, biological, and chemical oceanography. In addition, LSU’s HPC system maintains a premier computing environment. Two of LSU HPC’s clusters were ranked as the world top 100 super-computers in 2016.

Interested candidates please send your CVs to Dr. Z. George Xue (email: zxue@lsu.edu). The position is expected to start in Fall 2021 or Spring 2022.
