Graduate Student / Research Assistant
School for Marine Science and Technology
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth

The School for Marine Science and Technology at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications from qualified students to our Masters and/or Ph.D. programs to work on problems relating to the effects of turbulence on optical properties in the marine atmospheric boundary layer. Specific project areas include field observations from fixed and shipboard platforms of the marine atmospheric boundary layer and state-of-the-art numerical modeling of how boundary layer turbulence affects optical transmission. The ideal candidate will have significant education/experience in applied math and/or physics, with additional experience in numerical modeling preferred.

A minimum of a Bachelors degree in oceanography, physics, applied mathematics, engineering or closely related field is required, with a Masters degree in one of these fields preferred. Applicants should have strong mathematical and computer skills with some background in physical and/or earth sciences. Review of applications is ongoing and will continue until positions are filled. At least one position is available immediately, with full-time enrollment beginning no later than Fall 2020 expected. Depending on level of qualifications, successful applicants will be eligible for financial support in the form of tuition and/or fee waivers, teaching and/or research assistantships, and/or stipend. Applicants must be U.S. citizens to qualify for research assistantship funding under this opportunity. For more information about our programs, please visit: http://www.smast.umassd.edu. Applications to our graduate program are available through our website: https://www.umassd.edu/graduate/apply/.

Interested applicants must complete a full application to our graduate program (see above links), and email a copy of their statement of interest, current resume, GRE scores (if available), and academic transcripts to:
