#1 Post by cae » Fri Mar 29, 2019 12:24 am

We're searching for a postdoctoral scientist who will join and collaborate with modeling groups at both UCSC and UCLA.

The Department of Ocean Sciences (https://oceansci.ucsc.edu/)at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and the Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics and Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles, invite applications for the position of Postdoctoral Scientist to study coupled physical and biogeochemical processes along the central California coast as influenced by ocean/estuarine exchange and by nutrient and other input from anthropogenic sources. The project involves the development of a high-resolution ocean model for the study region (outside the San Francisco Bay) using the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) and/or analysis of its output to understand the impact of local pollution on coastal ocean productivity, hypoxia, and acidification.

The Postdoctoral Scientist will work under the supervision of Profs. Christopher Edwards (UCSC) and James McWilliams (UCLA) and will collaborate with scientists at the Southern California Coastal Water Research Project Authority (http://www.sccwrp.org) and the San Francisco Estuary Institute (http://www.sfei.org).The scholar will be expected to lead their aspect of the project while simultaneously working as part of a team. Strong quantitative skills and experience with numerical models and scientific programming is advantageous, particularly with Fortran and either Matlab or Python. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are helpful.

Residency in either Santa Cruz or Los Angeles is possible with the expectation of travel between the two locations
