Applications are welcomed for a fixed term (1 year, extendable to two years after review) Postdoctoral Physical Oceanography position in Ocean Data Assimilation. The position is based within the Physical Oceanography Department, of the Ensenada Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education (CICESE - https://www.cicese.edu.mx/) in Ensenada, Mexico. The position is part of the project “Understanding and Predicting the Gulf of Mexico Loop Current, Topic 8: Numerical Modeling”, funded by the National Academy of Sciences (NAS). The objective of this post-doc is to contribute developing and applying an oceanic reanalysis and operational system for the Gulf of Mexico based on the 4d-VAR ROMS modeling system and evaluate the impact of different observations on the predictability of the Loop Current ocean estate. The research group includes several institutions across Mexico and the USA: CICESE, North Carolina State University, Florida State University, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of Rhode Island, and the Navy Research Lab, as well as overseas collaborators.

The minimum qualifications for a successful application must include:

- A PhD and documented research experience in physical oceanography or related field;

- Expertise with hydrodynamic numerical models (preferably ROMS);

- Experience in Data Assimilation techniques;

- Programming abilities, including proficiency in Fortran, Matlab or Python, and NetCDF, as well as experience working in a Linux environment;

- Scientific writing skills in English
