Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is currently searching for a Postdoctoral Investigator to join the Coastal Ocean Fluid Dynamics Laboratory in the Applied Ocean Physics & Engineering Department. This is a temporary, full-time, exempt position, and is eligible for benefits.

JOB SUMMARY & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Applications are invited for one Postdoctoral Investigator position focused on modeling the circulation in the Gulf of Maine using ROMS under the supervision of Weifeng Gordon Zhang (https://www2.whoi.edu/staff/wzhang/). The research project is to examine the influence of Gulf Stream warm-core ring on the circulation in the Gulf of Maine. The project is funded by the National Science Foundation OCE program. The position will be based at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI).

The initial appointment will be for 18 months with the potential for additional funding upon satisfactory performance. Online application forms should be submitted with a cover letter and full curriculum vitae including a list of three references.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Applicants must have a PhD in oceanography, engineering, or a closely related field at the time of the appointment
Expertise with 3D coastal hydrodynamic models is required
Experience with ROMS using realistic domains and forcing conditions is strongly preferred
Applicants should be creative, organized, motivated, have excellent communication skills, and able to work well as part of a large group
Successful applicants will be expected to independently design numerical experiments, analyze results, and write scientific papers
