Job Scope:
The FGBML Metocean Modelling and Analysis team has a vacancy for a Senior Ocean Modeller to support the development of hindcast/forecast models worldwide. The main tasks will be to carry out numerical ocean modelling and to assist with the further development of our numerical modelling services and the integration of modelling services with measured data analysis and the provision of metocean criteria.
The role will require the close liaison with wider metocean team.
Qualifications required:
A degree in Oceanography, Meteorology, or a related discipline is essential. A PhD is highly desirable.
Experience required:
• Detailed knowledge of one or more modelling software products such as ROMS, MITgcm, HYCOM, or NEMO (essential).
• Detailed knowledge of one or more modelling software products such as WRF, SWAN or WAVEWATCH III (desirable).
• Validation of numerical model data against measured data.
• Running software on a Linux platform.
• Writing technical MATLAB and Python scripts.
• Knowledge of data assimilation techniques would be an advantage.
Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities associated with this position include, but are not limited to the following:
• Carrying out numerical modelling.
• Validating models against appropriate measured data sources.
• Project management.
• Helping to develop new markets for our services.
• Other responsibilities may include the preparation of technical and commercial proposals, writing reports and project management.
