USGS Woods Hole numerical modeler position

The US Geological Survey, Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center is seeking to fill a term position to conduct research pertaining to impacts of storms on coastal systems. The Researcher will help to develop and apply all aspects of a coupled hydrodynamic and wave modeling system, including grid generation, creation of boundary files, generating forcing files, and performing numerical simulations on high performance computers. The research will focus to evaluate model fidelity of nearshore morphological changes and storm inundation for various selected hurricane and severe storms. Details are posted here:

Applicants are being sought with backgrounds as Computer Scientists, Engineers, Geologists, and/or Oceanographers. Specific duties include:
- Serves as a member of the Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center, Sediment Transport Group.
- Configure and run numerical simulations using a variety of oceanic, wave and sediment transport models, and develop new techniques and algorithms as needed to advance group research goals.
- Develop and apply workflow for processing observational and modeled ocean data, including search, access, analysis and visualization, developing new techniques needed to advance group research goals.
- Work with other group scientist, develop project proposals, publications, and presentations that summarize critical information and products that support group research goals

The duty location is in Woods Hole, MA and the job posting will close on November 24, 2017.
