Two postdoc positions in ocean ecosystem modeling at UCLA

#1 Unread post by dbianchi »

The UCLA Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences is looking to fill two post-doctoral positions as part of a project aimed at assessing the impact of climate variability and human emissions on the California Current Ecosystem. The first position will involve development, application and analysis of regional ocean biogeochemistry and ecosystem models, with a focus on acidification and hypoxia. The second position will involve developing, applying and analyzing a size-structured food-web/fishery model for the region, and comparison with observational datasets.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in atmospheric and oceanic sciences, fishery sciences, ecological modeling or a related field, effective oral and written communication skills, and an interest in collaborative research. Strong programming skills (Matlab, Python, Ferret, Fortran or similar) are also essential. Experience running regional or global numerical models will be an advantage, especially ROMS. The candidate is expected to work as part of the ocean and biogeochemistry modeling groups at UCLA. Applicants should submit a brief statement of research interests and goals and a complete CV, including contact information for up to three references, to Prof.s James McWilliams (jcm@atmos.ucla.edu) and Daniele Bianchi (dbianchi@atmos.ucla.edu). Consideration of applications begins immediately.

The initial appointment is full-time for one year with continuation with satisfactory progress. The position is available immediately, and applications will be considered until the position is filled. The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age or protected veteran status.
