A scientific programmer position supervised by Zouhair Lachkar is available at the
Center for Prototype Climate Modeling, an interdisciplinary research unit at New
York University Abu Dhabi. The successful candidate will provide technical support
for a small team of scientists engaged in a broad effort to understand and model the
circulation and biogeochemical dynamics of the Indian Ocean. Activities will include:
i) running and analyzing a series of high-resolution Indian Ocean simulations using
the Regional Oceanic Modeling System (ROMS), ii) collecting, processing and
visualizing large scientific datasets and iii) developing and using innovative statistical
methods for analyzing data.

We encourage applications from candidates with a university degree in oceanography,
computer sciences or applied mathematics, preferably with a focus on geophysical
modeling. Experience with high-performance computing and ocean models like
ROMS is a big plus. We seek a candidate who works in a structured way with
analytical problem solving capability. The successful candidate is also expected to
have a good experience in scripting in Linux/Unix environment and code development
with Fortran, Matlab, Python or similar programs.

Appointments are offered for one year, renewable, contingent upon positive annual
reviews. The annual salary is very competitive, with substantial benefits including
allowances for housing, transportation, and annual home visits, in addition to full
health insurance and retirement contributions.
The position is based in Abu Dhabi, a progressive, westernized rapidly-growing city
in the United Arab Emirates, near Dubai.

Questions about the position should be directed to Zouhair Lachkar (zl28@nyu.edu).
Applicants should send a CV, a cover letter and the names of three professional
references via email to Bianca Arkeen (bianca.arkeen@nyu.edu). The position will
remain open until a suitable candidate is hired.
