Post-doc position in ensemble data assimilation

#1 Unread post by enrique »

A post-doctoral position in ocean modeling is available in the Earth System Modeling (ESM) group at Rutgers University. The primary objective of the project is to study seasonal to interannual predictability in the northwest Atlantic as well as produce a regional reanalysis with a regional coupled physical-biogeochemical model. The ESM group has recently developed an ensemble data assimilation framework for the ocean model ROMS. The assimilation technology is based on the NCAR Data Assimilation Research Testbed (DART), using an ensemble Kalman Filter.

Applicants are sought to join a team of scientists engaged in interdisciplinary ocean and climate modeling in a variety of worldwide locations, with an emphasis on the coastal ocean and its response to global climate variability and change. On going research topics in the ESM group include coastal ocean simulation and prediction with coupled physical-biogeochemical models, regional climate downscaling, and interdisciplinary impacts of climate change.

The candidate should have a Ph.D. in ocean or atmospheric science or related fields. Experience with ocean modeling, and in particular ensemble data assimilation approaches is highly desirable. The position is for one year with the possibility for extensions.

Queries regarding the position may be directed to Prof. Enrique Curchitser at enrique@esm.rutgers.edu.

To apply: Please send a cover letter with a short statement of research interests, a CV and the names of three references to enrique@esm.rutgers.edu.
