Position Announcement

3 Postdoctoral Research Scientists – Coastal Oceanography and Ocean Modeling
Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences
North Carolina State University

Ocean Observing and Modeling Group (http://www.go.ncsu.edu/OOMG) in the Department of Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Sciences (MEAS) at North Carolina State University (NC State) seeks to fill three (3) postdoctoral research scientist positions in the following areas:

1) Coastal circulation dynamics, modeling and data assimilation
2) Ocean-atmosphere-sea ice coupling dynamics and modeling
3) Coastal marine ecosystem dynamics and modeling

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. degree in physical oceanography, ocean engineering, marine ecosystems, or a related science. The successful candidate must have the ability to work well independently and as a part of a team, and have strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Preferred candidates will have experience with advanced ocean modeling, mathematical and computational skills. Candidates should be motivated to drive new developments in ocean circulation modeling / marine ecosystems simulations / data assimilation. Demonstrated proficiency in running complex model codes on high-performance computers, performing statistical analysis and scientific programming (e.g., Fortran) and scripting (using languages such as Perl, Python, NCL, Matlab) is greatly desired. It is expected that the successful candidate will publish scientific articles and contribute to write new funding proposals, as well as participate in short-term seagoing research activities.
