Postdoc at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution

#1 Unread post by dralston »

We are seeking applicants for a postdoctoral investigator position focused on modeling estuarine sediment transport using the ROMS and SWAN models. The research project is examining physical processes controlling sediment fluxes in Delaware Bay, including interacting effects of dredging and changes in marsh morphology on sediment fate in the estuary. The project is funded by the National Science Foundation through the Coastal Science, Engineering and Education for Sustainability (SEES) initiative, and the postdoc will work under the advisement of David Ralston and Rocky Geyer. Initial appointment will be for 1 year, with potential for additional funding upon satisfactory performance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE DESIRED:
Minimum requirements include a Ph.D. in oceanography, engineering, or a closely related field at the time of appointment. Expertise with 3-d coastal or estuarine hydrodynamic models is required, and experience with ROMS using realistic domains and forcing conditions is strongly preferred. Experience with wave (SWAN) and sediment transport (CSTMS) models and coupled modeling systems (COAWST) is also relevant to the position. Applicants should be creative, organized, motivated, have excellent communication skills, and able to work well as part of a large group. Successful applicants will be expected to independently improve the numerical simulations, design numerical experiments, analyze results, and write scientific papers.

Review of the applications will begin immediately, and proceed until the position is filled. Application details can be found here:
