PhD Student Fellowship, University of Louvain

A PhD student to be hired for contributing to the development of a second-generation model of the ice-ocean system. We are building a numerical ice-ocean model using the finite element method to solve the governing equations on an adaptive unstructured grid. To know more about this, visit the project's web site: www.climate.be/SLIM.

A PhD fellowship is available for conducting research related to the ocean and sea-ice components of the model, as well as their implementation on parallel computers. Our group has access to excellent computing facilities ( www.cism.ucl.ac.be ). The successful applicants will enjoy the excellent environment and postgraduate culture of the Institut d'astronomie et de géophysique G. Lemaître ( www.astr.ucl.ac.be ) and the Centre for systems engineering and applied mechanics ( www.cesame.ucl.ac.be ).

Applicants should have a background in fluid mechanics, numerical modelling, oceanography or climatology. Those willing to work on the sea-ice component of the model are particularly encouraged to apply. Applications, including CV and the name and address of an academic referee, should be made to the project co-ordinator at the address below. Informal enquiries should be directed to the relevant project promoter, for whom contact information is available on the web site of SLIM, the Second-generation Louvain-la-Neuve Ice-ocean Model. The search will continue until a suitable PhD student is found.
