The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) Horn Point Laboratory (HPL) is seeking a post-doctoral Assistant Research Scientist to work on externally-funded projects in the area of coastal/estuarine oceanography. The position will involve the development and applications of numerical ocean models, and the analysis of observational data. Research topics include the impacts of climate variability and change on estuaries, the role of winds in estuarine dynamics, and storm surges and coastal inundations. A Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography or a related field is required. Experience in numerical modeling is preferred. Salary will be commensurate with experience. The appointee is eligible to receive the full university benefits, including the medical, prescription and dental plans as well as the state retirement and pension plan. The position begins in September, 2013. The initial appointment is for 1-year, with re-appointments of up to 2 subsequent years possible, contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.
