Major Duties: As a Physical Scientist, you will assist in projects to develop, improve and apply operational hydrodynamic modeling in estuarine and coastal waters. You will be expected to participate in efforts with other NOS program offices to develop and implement operational hydrodynamic model systems in U. S. ports, estuaries, and coastal waters. You will be responsible in the application and development of tools to be used to evaluate statistical measures of quality of hydrodynamic circulation models which are required to measure the success of changes to modeling techniques. You will also be expected to communicate research and development results with the national and international oceanographic science community.

Experience in numerical hydrodynamic water circulation modeling is required and experience in tidal and storm surge modeling is desirable. Experience in Fortran, C, or C++ computer programming, as well as scripting language associated with Unix/Linux operating systems, is required. Experience in oceanographic data analysis in an academic, research, or operational environment is required. Experience in graphics and visualization techniques is also desirable.
