The Geophysical Institute at the University of Bergen invites applications for a 2-year post-doctoral research position in physical oceanography, under the “Faroe Bank Channel Overflow: Dynamics and Mixing” project. The successful candidate will work with the numerical modelling of idealized processes of buoyancy driven flows and their parameterization into the ocean component of Norwegian Earth System Model.

Applicants must have achieved a Ph.D. or equivalent education in physical oceanography, fluid dynamics, physics, applied mathematics or related disciplines, or have presented the dissertation for assessment by the closing date for the application. An ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience in numerical modelling and model development, parallel computing and data analysis in high performance computing environments, knowledge and understanding of physical oceanography, the theory of turbulence and mixing and entrainment processes, and a good and relevant publication record.
