Post-Doctoral Estuarine Ecological Modeler

The Center for Coastal Margin Observation & Prediction (CMOP), a multi-institutional NSF Science and Technology Center hosted at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), seeks a Post-Doctoral Researcher to join the center’s multi-institutional modeling team. The primary responsibility will be to advance, through team modeling, the understanding and prediction of biogeochemical pathways and ecological processes in the Columbia River coastal margin. Modeling development will leverage an existing circulation modeling system and will benefit from an extensive biogeochemical observation network. The modeling focus will be guided by inter-disciplinary science questions, raised in the context of NSF- and regionally-funded research initiatives that address the need to understand contemporary variability and to anticipate climate- and development-induced changes in rivers, estuaries and continental shelves.

Qualifications include a Ph.D. in oceanography or other relevant field, and prior experience developing and applying physical, biogeochemical or ecological models. Experience in unstructured-grid coding, and in modeling and analysis of systems across river-to-shelf gradients, are highly desirable.

This position is based at OHSU’s West Campus, in Beaverton, Oregon, working in the lab of Professor Antonio Baptista. Will also work closely with our regional partners, such as Professor Yvette Spitz at Oregon State University, and other researchers at OSU and University of Washington. Regional travel will be required. Depending on qualifications and interest, opportunities might be available to contribute to the teaching of graduate courses and to mentor undergraduate and high school interns.
