University of South Florida Post Doctoral Research Scholar

The College of Marine Science, University of South Florida, seeks a Post Doctoral Research Scholar in coastal ocean circulation modeling and analyses. Successful candidates will engage in a coordinated program of observations and models toward understanding and forecasting the circulation of the west Florida continental shelf (WFS) and the interactions that link the estuarine, coastal, and deep-ocean environments, plus opportunity for coupled, physical/biological model collaboration. Successful candidates will work as part of a coordinated team.

Minimum qualifications: PhD in Physical Oceanography (or related field) with a firm grounding in GFD and excellent written and oral communication skills. (ABDs-all but dissertations-accepted.)

Preference will be given to candidates experienced with sigma or hybrid coordinate models and the blending of observations with models through data assimilation. We presently apply two different modeling constructs for WFS nowcast/forecasts: 1) ROMS nested in HYCOM for the deep-ocean connection with the shelf and 2)
FVCOM nested in HYCOM for both the deep-ocean and the estuary connections with the shelf. We are particularly interested in advancing the second of these models.

This position is with the CMS-USF Ocean Circulation Group in St. Petersburg, FL (see http://ocgweb.marine.usf.edu and http://comps.marine.usf.edu for programmatic examples). Initial appointment is for one year, with extensions desirable based on performance and funding availability.
