Postdoctoral Position in Numerical Modeling of Nearshore Ocean Dynamics

Santa Barbara Coastal Long Term Ecological Research (SBC LTER)
Marine Science Institute
University of California, Santa Barbara

A postdoctoral position in the numerical modeling of nearshore ocean dynamics and the mixing of coastal runoff waters is available with the Santa Barbara Coastal Long Term Ecological Research (SBC LTER) for a highly qualified individual. The project will use the Regional Ocean Model System (ROMS) to model surface wave-current interactions and stream water dispersion for several SBC LTER sites. The overall objective of this project is to characterize storm water dilution and land-ocean interactions and to characterize their potential ecological impacts.

Applicants must have a PhD in physical oceanography or related discipline, extensive experience in the numerical modeling of ocean flows (preferably using ROMS), a strong publication record, ability to synthesize both ocean model output and oceanographic observations, and the desire to work on highly interdisciplinary problems. The research will be conducted at UCSB, although the successful candidate will work closely with Prof. Jim McWilliams' group at UCLA.

The initial appointment is fulltime for one year with continued funding for a second year available given satisfactory progress. The position is available immediately and applications will be considered until the position is filled. Individuals from under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

Please email a cover letter stating your research accomplishments and interests, a curriculum vitae, representative publications, and contact information for three recommendations to:
