Postdoc in Coastal Oceanography at Univ. of Maryland

#1 Unread post by mingli »

The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) Horn Point Laboratory (HPL) is seeking a post-doctoral Assistant Research Scientist to work with Dr. Ming Li on a NSF-funded project examining the impacts of climate variability and change on estuaries and coastal oceans. With Chesapeake and Delaware Bay as study sites, the overall objective of this project is to quantify interannual variability of estuarine circulation and stratification, to explain the physical mechanisms responsible for such variability, and provide an assessment of the likely changes in response to future climate change. The postdoc will have an opportunity to collaborate with climate scientist Dr. Ray Najjar at Penn State University and interact with a group of interdisciplinary researchers at HPL who are investigating the effects of climate change/variability on plankton productivity and hypoxia in coastal oceans.

A Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography or a related field is required. Experience in numerical modeling is preferred. For more information about Horn Point Laboratory and the project principle investigators, please see these websites: http://www.hpl.umces.edu, http://www.hpl.umces.edu/~mingli and http://www.met.psu.edu/people/rgn1. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Position begins in June, 2010. The initial appointment is for 1-year with re-appointments of up to 2 subsequent years possible, contingent on satisfactory performance. Applications should be submitted by mail or email, and include CV, publication list, statement of research interests, one-page summary of Ph.D. thesis, names/addresses of four references, and immigration status of non U.S. citizens. Applications should be sent to Dr. Ming Li, Horn Point Lab, University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science, 2020 Horn Point Road, Cambridge, MD 21613, U.S.A. For further information contact Ming Li at mingli@umces.edu or (410) 221-8420. Applications will be reviewed until position is filled. The University of Maryland is an equal opportunity/ affirmative action employer. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
