Texas A&M University, Department of Oceanography seeks to hire a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Coastal Ocean Hydrodynamic Modeling, starting September 1, 2010 or sooner if possible. The appointment is for 12 months, with an additional 12 months of funding available upon satisfactory performance.

This project is part of a large, NOAA-funded effort to develop and transition to operations a coupled biogeochemical/ physical model capable of forecasting the real-time development and evolution of shelf ecosystem processes. The initial focus will be the development and evolution of hypoxic events in the northern Gulf of Mexico on synoptic timescales. Primary responsibilities of the present position include coupling large-scale operational ocean models to an existing regional circulation model of the Texas-Louisiana continental shelf.

Candidates are expected to have experience using the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS), and have a solid background in programming in a variety of languages. Individuals should be creative, organized, motivated, have excellent communication skills, and able to work well as part of a large group. Annual salary is $50,000.
