Postdoc: Harmful Algal Blooms & the Columbia River Plume

Postdoctoral Position: Harmful Algal Blooms & the Columbia River Plume

The interdisciplinary PNWTOX project, jointly funded by NOAA and NSF, will use existing data in parallel with state of the art physical and bio-physical models to advance our understanding of HAB development/dissipation and transport and mixing processes in the Pacific Northwest, with the ultimate goal of improving HAB forecasting. We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to participate in analysis of observations and development of numerical models that explore the physics of HAB transport and mixing pathways, particularly as they are influenced by the Columbia River plume. We have extensive observations from the recent RISE (www.ocean.washington.edu/rise) and ECOHAB (www.ecohabpnw.org) projects, and have a well-developed modeling framework for realistic hindcasts through the ongoing MoSSea project (faculty.washington.edu/dsuth/MoSSea). The postdoc will work with Dr. Parker MacCready. A Ph.D. in Physical Oceanography or an allied field is required. The full-time position is for one year with the possibility of renewal for a second year given satisfactory performance.

Applications should be submitted by mail, and include CV, publication list, statement of research interests, one-page summary of Ph.D. thesis, names/addresses of four references, and immigration status of non-citizens. Applications should be sent to Dr. Parker MacCready, University of Washington, School of Oceanography, Box 355351, Seattle, WA, 98195-5351. For further information contact Parker MacCready: parker@ocean.washington.edu, (206) 685-9588.
