Postdoc Opportunity at ODU. Antarctic Coastal Modeling

#1 Unread post by jklinck »

Research Scientist in Oceanography. Full-time position: to participate in a National Science
Foundation-funded project that is focused on understanding the physical mechanisms controlling
cross-shelf exchange on Antarctic continental shelves and how this exchange relates to melting of
the base of the ice shelves and thereby influencing glacial movement. The work will involve both
realistic and process oriented numerical model simulations. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in
marine science or equivalent; must have experience with computer systems, FORTRAN90/95,
numerical circulation modeling, and scientific writing. Applicants must have experience setting
up and running an ocean circulation (or similar) model (ROMS is preferred), analysing numerical
model results and knowledge of physical oceanography. Experience with sea-ice models is
beneficial. The applicant is expected to prepare research results for publication in peer-reviewed
scientific journals, make presentations at national and international scientific meetings, and
attend project-related workshops. The initial appointment is for one year with a possible renewal
for a second and third year, pending satisfactory review of each year's results. Consideration of
applicants will begin on 1 December 2009 and will continue until the position is filled. Send
resume and three references to the Old Dominion University Research Foundation, P.O. Box
6369, Norfolk, VA 23508 or by email to odurfjobs@odu.edu. Specify Job #09025. AA/EOE.
