Masters or Ph.D. level position with major role in optimizing design of ocean wave power generation devices.

Duties & Responsibilities

Conducts design investigation and optimization studies for floating or seabed mounted structures by modeling the dynamic response to the sea environment of the structure and power take-off systems. Defines proper equations and performs modeling calculations to predict structural response to waves and flow. Carries out experimentation for evaluating a variety of mechanisms in a fluid environment. Designs experiments to validate models, conceptualizes physical model design and directs model building. Analyzes data and determines necessary changes for improved performance. Interacts with other scientists and engineers.

Qualifications

Several years experience conducting modeling of marine structures using computer program simulations and experimentation in fluids lab. Experience in experimental set up and experimentation. Could be university or industry experience.

  • Key areas of expertise are math, physics, dynamics, fluid mechanics with experience in wave tanks.
  • Familiarity with high level marine industry software programs such as WAMIT, AQUA, ORCAFLEX etc. Expert skills in multi-variable experimental design and statistical analysis relating to the offshore ocean environment.
  • A good working knowledge and ability in prototype building, instrumentation and sensors, data acquisition systems.
  • Matlab, Simulink, Word, Excel, Power Point, data acquisition programming.
  • Minimum Masters Degree, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or Physics with emphasis in Fluid Mechanics.
