8th Workshop on Adjoint Model Applications - First Notice

The 8th Workshop on Adjoint Model Applications in Dynamic Meteorology
The Chateau Resort and Conference Center in Tannersville, Pennsylvania, USA, May 18-22, 2009

The 8th Adjoint Workshop will be held 18-22 May 2009 at The Chateau Resort and Conference Center in Tannersville, Pennsylvania, USA. As in the past, presentations of adjoint applications outside meteorology will be welcome as will those using techniques that are alternatives to adjoints (such as ensemble methods). Also as in the past, presenters will be encouraged to teach attendees about a few things they have learned rather than report tersely on all the work they have done, and much time will be reserved for questions and discussion.

The cost per person will be approximately 750 USD for single occupancy (less for double), for the full Sunday dinner through Friday lunch, including all meals and registration. Some funds for partial travel support may be available, especially for students.

This is an open workshop: PLEASE PASS THIS ANNOUNCEMENT TO ANY colleagues who may be interested, since there is no other advertising. More information will follow in a few months.

In the meantime, the organizers would like to have an idea of how many people are seriously interested in attending, given restricted travel budgets and other meetings planned during 2009. If you do seriously plan to attend, PLEASE SEND AN EMAIL to ronald.m.errico@nasa.gov soon so an appropriate number of rooms can be reserved (If too many are reserved, the workshop will have to spend its funds on empty rooms rather than to assist participants). If you are a student or postdoc and would need partial travel support (likely only the 750 USD in local expenses for each request) note that in your email. At this point, minimal funds are available for participant costs, but we hope to get more.

Hope to see you there,
the organizing committee:
