Hi,

Is it necessary to apply climatology file in realistic applications ? what will happen if clim file is not used ?

It is perfectly fine to not use a climatology file. You really want to be able to get away without using one, if possible. If you run for a long time (years or decades) without any nudging, you can have some drift of temperature and/or salinity (not to mention bio tracers) if your inputs don't balance your outputs. You want to run without climatology to find out if you are in this situation. We have reluctantly gone back to some climatology nudging, but only in a band around the boundary to clean up the boundary conditions.

If you routinely apply climatology nudging everywhere, you will be criticized for doing so - constraining your solution too firmly.
