Re: open boundary for future projection of CMIP6 downscaling

I used the CIMP BCC data to create ini and bry files , which came from the same dataset.

Re: open boundary for future projection of CMIP6 downscaling

According to rtoste's suggestion, I recreated the initial and boundary files from CMIP for my simulation, then it works well without blow-up problem.

Re: open boundary for future projection of CMIP6 downscaling

Yes, I'm using the initial condition from CMIP.

By comparing the u/v from CMIP and SODA, I found u/v from CMIP is about 0.5m/s smaller than soda,
Is it possible that the smaller current speed courses the blow-up?

Re: open boundary for future projection of CMIP6 downscaling

Yes, you are right. there are strong current speed at the open boundaries, and which course the zeta is large. current is shown as following. The values for LBC, I guess, are these: EAST_FSCHAPMAN Eastern edge, free-surface, Chapman condition. EAST_M2FLATHER Eastern edge, 2D momentum, Flather conditi...

Re: open boundary for future projection of CMIP6 downscaling

zeta from restart file is extremely abnormal at open boundary ,

u/v are unreasonable throughout the region.

temp/salt are plausible.

figures as shown below.

Re: open boundary for future projection of CMIP6 downscaling

I used ROMS3.5 and modified the program from CROCO ROMSTOOLS https://www.croco-ocean.org/ to create OBC file. It seems the blow-up did not happen at the boundary. My grid resolution is 0289x0379x0020, with open boundary at the south and the east, the blow-up message as shown below. STEP Day HH:MM:SS...

open boundary for future projection of CMIP6 downscaling

Hi, Recently I used CMIP6 BCC results to do some future projection business. When the open boundary created by CMIP BCC ocean data, there is a blowing-up problem. However, changing the boundary file from SODA data , the model is able to run successfully . For future projection, maybe it's unreasonab...

Re: bulk flux advice from clivar community

Does this advice also suit for ROMS3.5 ? I use ROMS3.5 BULK_FLUXES with model resolution finer than 1/4 degree, and recently I confused why the timeseries of my model results doesn't show trend and interannual variance although it was forced by monthly forcings. Maybe I should use relative winds inst...

Re: cppdefs for BULK_FLUX

Recently I simulate the model under CMIP6 forcing, there are a question about the TIME_REF . The Calendar for CMIP6 downloaded variables is "365 days" , however that is "365.25days" for TIME_REF = 0 in ROMS .in file。 what should do to match the ROMS calendar and CMIP6 calendar? I...

zeta abnormal in Feburary for both ROMS3.5 and ROMS3.7

Hi everyone, When I plot monthly area-averged model results, there are a confused problem where zeta in Febuary always higher than expected . This phenomenon appeares in every year while results in other month are normal. ROMS3.7 for climatology(SODA , COADS monthly dataset), use FORCING, ROMS3.5 fo...

Re: cppdefs for BULK_FLUX

Now I begin to doubt my simulation steps. My task is to simulate sea level height in future 50 or 100 years. So I separate it into three steps: First, simulating the climatology condition for my study area until model is stable. Forcing fields in this step are come from climatology datasets. Second,...

Re: cppdefs for BULK_FLUX

When checked my input fields, I find another possible mistake. As arango said activate LONGWAVE_OUT and provide downward longwave radiation so bulk_flux will subtract the outgoing IR by using ROMS surface temperature (K), infrared emissivity, and Stefan-Boltzmann constant. I find my input fileds the...

Re: cppdefs for BULK_FLUX

My current strategy is to activate LONGWAVE_OUT and provide downward longwave radiation so bulk_flux will subtract the outgoing IR by using ROMS surface temperature ( K ), infrared emissivity, and Stefan-Boltzmann constant. I also use downward shortwave radiation and I activate COOL_SKIN to correct...

Re: cppdefs for BULK_FLUX

Turning on BULK_FLUX is one step. What are you using to provide the atmospheric fields? How frequently? You have: DIURNAL_SRFLUX Modulate shortwave radiation by the local diurnal cycle. which I would not use if the atmospheric fields are say three-hourly. Thanks a lot for your reply. I uesed Uwind,...

cppdefs for BULK_FLUX

At first, I used Forcing Flux input files to simulate my model. Comparing with SODA Climatology, The temperature results are not so good(shown below). Then be advised to using Bulk Flux input files, I open #define BULK_FLUXES in .h files. The result in the first month is close to SODA, but it gets w...

simulating SCS sea level ,set time_cycle =366 ,right?

Hi. Firstly thank you for your attention on my question.I am a green at the roms. Although i succeed in make files ——grd.nc, frc.nc, clm.nc , bry.nc and ini.nc , I am not sure if those files are right. I run my model ,but there are consistently Blowing Up problems.I tell what I have done in detail, ...
