About disspiation of turbulent kinetic energy

Hi ROMS's users! I want to compute the disspiation of turbulent kinetic energy using ROMS outputs.I used Mellor-Yamada turbulence close schemes. I have ROMS output tke(oceantime,s_w,eta_rho,xi_rho) and gls(oceantime,s_w,eta_rho,xi_rho) . Now I have a question that if q^2=sqrt(2*tke) and l = gls/tke ...

Re: 'zeta' in ROMS

ROMS zeta is "absolute SSH" in the sense that it includes time mean and time varying SSH with respect to a datum (i.e. zeta=0) that is a geopotential surface, i.e. if zeta=constant there is no associated pressure gradient force. Altimetrists do not say "absolute" SSH so let me c...

Re: About ROMS Zeta

Respected ROMS Users, In some earlier posts I found that ROMS Zeta is absolute SSH which can be considered equivalent to satellite derived MDT + SLA , where MDT is mean dynamic topography and SLA is Sea level anomaly. In AVISO site I found MADT, which is map of absolute dynamic topography is again ...

Ok,thank you wilkin for your replies! I am modeling the sea over shallow sea shelf.I didn't define BULK_FLUXS,I have very shallow water and therefore very thin surface cells. So I need to define SOLAR_SOURCE option as your advives, no matter whether I use MY25_MIXING nor other vertival mixing schemes...

Re: Surface heat flux. Double the count?

If you #define SOLAR_SOURCE then the specified net shortwave radiation is propagated vertically into the water column and absorbed internally according to a double exponential profile set by the Jerlov water type option WTYPE in ocean.in. This step is handled by routine lmd_swfrac even if the KPP (...

Re: forcing the ROMS with ERA interim

Hi redhat,I think if you are running a climatology case, you can use a cycle_length attribute, if you are running a real-time case, you can start your model from 2008-01-01_01:30:00. Whatever, try and see, good luck!

Hi d.kobashi~ :D I tried SOLAR_SOURCE and QCORRECTION to adjust heat flux (satellite-based SST). High SST/sub-surface temperature still persists. I am wondering how you gave the values of dQdSST to ROMS ? I meet a similar problem like yours. Without BULK_FLUXS,ROMS need only sstr,svstr,shflux,swflux...

When you say monthly, do you mean you have each individual month or do you have a generic January that is for all Januaries? If it's the first, you don't want to set cycle_length at all. Re: do i have to add the UV_TIDES for a real case?

If you use a Flather condition to specify ssh only with a propagating wave, you will only get half of the wave you expect. Using reduced physics might help this a bit, but you should do some experiments to be sure. I am running a real case which only has the tidal forcing with M2,S2,K1,O1;I provide...
