Re: Dale B. Haidvogel (1949-2023)
In addition to his many scientific talents, Dale was a long-time supporter of interdisciplinary modeling and a generous friend to young scientists, connecting them to the wider community of modelers - from SPEM to SCRUM to ROMS, a steady advocate for this expanding community. I especially enjoyed tr...

Re: Runoff/river-derived biogeochemical tracer fluxes
Kate, did you use point sources to implement the lateral fluxes, or a compiler option (cppdefs) in your branch? We haven't been able to find one particular to lateral fluxes in the main branch documentation.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: Regional downscaling of climate projections?
Hi Ivca, Here's a paper by Drenkard et al. with summaries of many downscaling studies: https://academic.oup.com/icesjms/article/78/6/1969/6307379?login=true Some recent ROMS-based CMIP5/CMIP6 downscaling to the Bering Sea, with discussion of methods, is described in the following publications: https...

Re: stack, heap, and segmentation faults on large simulations
Hi Hernan, Just to clarify, the precise dimensions of our grid are 182x258x60. It seemed our problem was more with stack vs the heap, irrespective of the fp-model issue. Apparently our cluster did have a restricted memory problem (restricted stack size), which the new settings have overcome. Not a R...

stack, heap, and segmentation faults on large simulations
We had been having severe issues with ROMS (plus biology) on a new (384 AMD core) cluster, using intel fortran: /opt/intel/Compiler/11.1/069/bin/intel64/ifort When we used the standard options in Linux-ifort.mk: FFLAGS = -heap-arrays -fp-model-precise we were getting random hangups of the execution ...

found the source of error
Well, it turns out the BIO_SEDIMENT section was the source of the bug after all - the undefined variable "indx" was used where "ibio" should be! Things look MUCH better now, total nitrogen is conserving well. Here's the latest diff: ----------------------------------------- /home...

sinking algorithm
John, Thanks for your input; I certainly agree that the ROMS implementation is a big advance in terms of numerics (indeed, it conserves extremely well with sinking turned off). The nitrogen and silicate parts of NEMURO are fundamentally separate, and one should not affect the other as regards conser...

sinking-related total nitrogen leak in NEMURO
Several of us have recently been debugging the ROMS NEMURO code. One way of testing the code is to see whether all categories of nitrogen taken together ("total nitrogen") is conserved in a run. When I run my thus-far debugged version (using Holling grazing) in 1D (BIO_TOY), and set the si...

values for nemuro.in
Hi group, There appears to be a problem with units in the originally released nemuro.in, such that many of the values are off by a factor of 1.e3. I have confirmed this with Hernan. Here is a diff of the presently distributed file, and what I believe to be the correct values (that is, values corresp...

ROMS meeting lodging
Hi, I will be attending the workshop, and will have a bit of gear for a virtual reality demonstration.
