Surface too hot... and too salty
After setting up a new ROMS application a saw that, after a few time steps, the surface water temperature was to high (120oC) and salinity was also too high (100 or more). The problem was that I mistakenly used an atmospheric forcing file containing a cloud-cover time-series that vary between 0 and ...

Question about the scalar transport equation used in ROMS
I am writing an ecosystem-focused manuscript (we used ROMS with BIO_FENNEL). At the moment I am writing the equations and I am a bit confused about the scalar transport equation used in ROMS. Maybe someone can help me out: Below is a general scalar transport equation commonly used by biological ocea...

Re: Problem reading atmospheric forcing file
My problem was only with "zeros on the output screen"... which should be solved by upgrading to the newest ROMS.
I figured that wind was actually working fine... by generating a file with rather large wind... that way the effect was evident.
Hope this helps.

Problem building an Individual-Based Modeling for ROMS
Hello All! I am coding a module to do individual-based modeling in ROMS. But I ran into a problem that I can't figure out. I need help from the ROMS' Gurus!!!! THE SETUP: As a simple example, I added an oyster in the middle of a 3 by 3 by 3 grid with walls on all sides. Each cell is roughly 100m x 1...

Re: Problem reading atmospheric forcing file
Hello all, I've been working on this "zero wind" issue for a week... So far, I think I found why ROMS outputs zeros on the screen... if found a difference between the version I am running (301 2009-01-22) and the older version where ROMS last read winds ok In get_2dflg.F ...I added: Fmin =...

Problem reading atmospheric forcing file
Hello all, I spend most of my day trying to add atmospheric forcing to my application... and I haven't been successful... now, with a headache and a slight desire to shoot my screen... I decided it is time to ask for help. 1) I compiled ROMS using BULK_FLUXES 2) I created a forcing file (myapp_frc.n...

Hi bibi951, Follow the tutorial in WikiROMS ( https://www.myroms.org/wiki/index.php/ROMS_Cygwin#Install_Cygwin ) I originally posted the tutorial here in the forums, but then the tutorial was moved to WikiROMS where the tutorial was further refined. The tutorial in this post was kept for historical ...

Re: EASYGRID: Grid generation for ROMS
Hi ufuk, I am not sure I understand your problem... For what I understood, you estimated X Y and resol and when you plug your estimated values in Easygrid, the resulting grid-plot did not look as you expected... it was too small or not quite covering the whole lake. Did I get it right? If so... you ...

Hi lindseyk, Sorry for the late reply... I am just coming back from a conference trip. I tried Easygrid with your dimensions (listed above) and it worked, but the grid was all funky... Easygrid cannot handle grids over SUPER LARGE domains . However, if I take one zero off X, Y and resol (i.e. make t...

EASYGRID: Grid generation for ROMS
EASYGRID is a simple matlab script to make ROMS grids. It is an austere alternative, but it fairly easy to get it up-and-running (needs MEXNC, SNCTOOLS and ROMS-Matlab-Toolkit). This Matlab script also allows the user to (1) smooth bathymetry, (2) interactively edit land/sea mask, and (3) create sim...

Hi Rouf,
I am new to ROMS too... but I may be able to help.
I think you need to install MEXNC for your matlab... I wrote a tutorial here: https://www.myroms.org/wiki/index.php/MEXNC
In step #5, I explained a bit how to add a directory to "Matlab's path".
I hope this helps.
