Assimilation of SSH

Hello everyone,

In ROMS 4dvar, we can assimilate the observed ssha to the model. When assimilate the ssha, I was wondering how assimilated ssha influence the other variable such as temperature and salinity? I was trying to find the code regarding this issue, but I couldn't.

I think your set up for boundary condition is not common set up.

Why don't you give below boundary condition and see if the result change.

For free surface, Chapman
2d momentum(Ubar, Vbar), Flather
3d momentum(Uvel, Vvel), Clamp

Re: sponge layer

Hi,
The name in the code 'fac' means factor.

Therefore fac determines that the largest value of the viscosity(or diffusivity) in your model boundary.

For example, if you set 4.0_r8 and your viscosity is 10 m2/s(in ocean.in), you will have maximum 40 m2/s along your model boundary.

Simple question about conversion factor

Hi,

I'm trying to use ERA40 forcing. The solar radiation unit is w/m^2/s.

I need to convert this to w/m^2 which is unit for ROMS.

What should I do?

Sorry for asking basic question.

Before you think about the wrong use of horizontal/vertical diffusion cpp option,
did you check out the value of surface forcing whether it's reasonable?

Sometimes we find some weird value in the forcing file due to mistake

So, both of your model(large and nested domain) are initialized with climatology T and S? And the nested domain blows up? Can I see figures of your horizontal and vertical

So, if I can get the sea level pressure, then I'd better use it.

But if I can not get the sea level pressure, I can also use the surface pressure (or surface air

pressure) as an alternative since it is expected showing negligible effect.

There are two different surface pressure variable from atmospheric model such as NCEP.

Dera user,

I'm trying to install ROMS in NEC-SX system.
Is there a person who uses this system?
If so, would you show me a complie sctipt(sxf90 compiler)?

Please help me out.

Question about the tidal forcing

Hi all, While I was trying to add tidal forcing, I came to see that the ROMS is using both surface hieght and depth-averaged velocity boundary conditions in tidal forcing. I think that using both the height and velocity boundary conditions might lead into trouble due to the inconsistence between the...

As far as I know in ROMS, if you want to do a prognostic running you need to run the model with undef xx_CLIMATOLOGY in contrast, if you want do a diagnostic running you need to run the model with define xx_CLIMATOLOGY in your header file. Hi all It might sound basic thing but I can't find a definition of prognostic run and diagnostic run. Is there anyone who can define those two methods and explain what should I do if I want to run by those two separate methods with ROMS? For example, turn on specific cpp flag. Thank you so much! Best

Re: Matlab version errors on ROMSTOOLS

Hi, there.
The tools which you are trying to use is from a different version of ROMS.
It's ROMS_Agrif from brest(France).
You'd better ask those questions
on http://roms.mpl.ird.fr/ which you downloaded the tools.

Good luck!

Tidal effection with analytical expression

Hi all, I want to use tidal effect using analytical expression in my domain. Since my domain is too small to use large scale data such as TPXO6. So, I think it's better to use the ana_fsobc.h to make tadal effect. Hence I put this m2=0.757_r8 s2=0.337_r8 k1=0.245_r8 o1=0.177_r8 ttime=time(ng)+162.0_...
