An overview of ROMS/TOMS algorithms will be presented including new and future capabilities. The status of the tangent linear and adjoint model algorithms and its associated computational platforms will be also discussed. The platform for data assimilation includes both strong and weak constraint four-dimensional variational assimilation (4DVAR) algorithms. The strong constraint algorithms (conventional and incremental methods) assume that errors exits only in the observational data and not in the model whereas weak constraint algorithms (representer method) includes both observational and model errors. These algorithms are evaluated via idealized twin data assimilation experiments.
